Defending the Nation
with tactical precision

On the formation of the Zimbabwe National Army in 1980, there was 1 Mechanised Battalion whilst 1 Zimbabwe Armoured Car Regiment (1 ZACR) was incepted in 1981. These two units were the bedrock of Mechanised and Armoured operations then. They would provide improved mobility to that of ordinary infantry man whilst at the same time providing protection, flexibility, communication and fire power. On 01 June 1990, 1 Mechanised Battalion, 2 Mechanised Battalion (the then Grey Scouts) and 1 Zimbabwe Armoured Car Regiment were amalgamated to form Headquarters Mechanised Brigade.
